MEGALIFT
were called in by a company in the East Midlands, Cullum Detuners
who are specialist Mechanical Engineers serving, in the main the
aircraft manufacturing industry.
The problem they had was to erect an "Attenuator" on site. This was
a type of silencer that could be used in conjunction with the
testing of jet or turbine engines.
The problems that presented them were as follows:
The actual unit hung, cantilevered from a 10 metre high pillar. It had to be offered up to the underside of the cantilever in order that they could be fastened together. The fastening would be achieved with nuts and bolts running around a common flange. The number of bolts was quite substantial, approx 50-60 in total. The weight of the unit was some 80t. If the fastening were to be attempted using a mobile crane this in itself would be of a substantial capacity in order to lift a unit of this weight. As the operation would take place in the open air, the unit would be subject to wind and weather factors, making control, which would be of paramount importance with positioning all the bolts, very difficult.
MEGALIFT overcame all of he foregoing difficulties with ease. It could offer the unit supported from below. It could track backwards and forwards along the rails, raise or lower as desired, and crab sideways offering infinite control with the unit as required during the fitting process. At 80t the system was working at below 50% of it's rated capacity giving an enhanced factor of safety.
The foregoing demonstrates once again the versatility of the MEGALIFT jacking systems able to overcome problems and achieve results in virtually every situation.
